Today I Ellipticalled
Course: Umm...
Distance: 2.5 miles
Recurring thought: "What the hell is this supposed to simulate?"
In my continuing effort to stave off shin splints, I decided to give the elliptical trainer another try. Having only used one a couple of times in my life, I was a little bit uncertain about it's aerobic benefits.
After spent 30 minutes on the thing, I found that I did indeed have a hard time elevating my heart-rate to where I wanted it to be, just as Luna mentioned. If I tried to go too fast, my feet - being unused to the weird pedals, would bounce out, (giving me nightmare flashbacks to the one time I took a spin class and was unused to the fact that I couldn't coast and promptly threw myself off my bike). If I increased the resistance, I'd find my leg muscles fatiguing too quickly. Anyway, it's better than not working out at all, and if it helps me keep my aerobic fitness up without adding to the pounding that my shins take from running, then it may become part of my regular rotation of exercises.
